This article will briefly describe the changes to be expected during the three-month winter season. These changes will modify the general yearly forecast posted earlier this year. Please refer to that article for a general overview of the entire year.
In 2005, winter begins at 7:34 UT on 7 November. This is the true beginning of winter in the northern hemisphere on planet earth, the time when the life force of the earth approaches quietude and rest. The winter season will end when Spring begins, on 3 February 2006 at 23:19 UT.
If you wish to learn more about the true seasons on earth, including the exact timing for all four seasons, please see the article on the calendar.

Synopsis of Winter 2005-6
|
| |
|
For the entire winter quarter, the young feminine energies are best. That is, the entirely new, creative, and joyous ideas coming from the more feminine side of things are the ideas that will lead to improvement and happiness.
The male, on the other hand, must be extremely cautious to avoid giving his power to the lower nature. If he will desist from a
rowdy expression of his power, he will not have to lose it, and may thus maintain and develop his position harmoniously.

The Feminine Path
|
|
At this time, an enlightened, friendly cooperativeness is a desirable necessity. There should be a uniting or reuniting with those who are beautiful, attractive because of something radiant in their nature. Behind the good-looking face, there emerges an
intelligent mind, full of good ideas. This intelligent beauty does not lead to further embodiment, rather it takes everyone away from the earth, away from the crowd, into places and spaces beyond the norm.
The feminine energy is youthful and shyly confident, like a pretty young girl of an aristocratic mind who moves in a measured and elegant manner. She loves her old father, who is always available in a harmonious and supportive setting. Together, they might talk of
great literature, or take a quiet walk along the river, or perhaps go to the ballet.
From this relationship, the girl derives her serious depth, mixing it with her childlike beauty in a wonderful combination. In a modern setting, this energy might express as idealistic yearnings coupled with a distaste for current vulgarities, leading to a decision to stop supporting all that is ugly, and instead to pursue contact with only the beautiful.
This, in turn, might lead to a self-questioning as to why the ugly was ever accepted in the first place, and why oneself believed it a duty to support that which was untenable and out of place. This questioning, then, will probably lead to some kind of awakening, wherein it is discovered that much of the previous belief was simply a foolish mental laziness that accepted all manner of social propaganda without bothering to ask if it were true.
In part, this is the meaning of the young girl and her wise father, as the sincere, questioning, feminine soul within all of us reaches out to discover the perennial, wise reasons for what is happening. In this quest is the development of enlightenment and beauty.
In this, then --- the one-pointed commitment to develop a kindly and beautiful intelligence, and to re-apprehend all things in this new light --- is the virtue of the winter quarter. Choosing to remain in a gentleness that is capable of great sensitivity, one abandons all forcible ways, and thus achieves entrance into the peaceable realms within, then reflecting that inner peace outwardly as a peaceful and harmonious life.

The Masculine Path
|
| |
|
In this winter quarter, the male path is difficult, indeed, though not many males will fully realize it. For many of these people will be energetically busy with their plunge into error.
When I speak of male or female energy, I mean a universal maleness or femaleness that both men and women can express interchangeably. So this warning about the male energy applies both to men and to women.
On the positive side, the male wants to laugh, to expand, to intimately experience the things of earth, but not to be fooled by them. To accomplish this, he must be lean and light, more a being of air and fire and less a denizen of the earth.
But the problem is that the man will want to keep his old habits, to buy houses and land and indulge in his conventional, clan-indoctrinated, unexamined crowd emotions. He will want to hold on to many of the prepackaged myths and power-structures that previouslly gave apparent existence to his false identity. Though he might set out to do individual things, he will tend to come under the spell of conventional group entities who are eager to exploit his desire.
As he begins to see the absurdity and ridiculousness of all this --- of acting unique and important while actually carrying a common burden --- his true reaction should be to laugh heartily at himself until his hand-me-down ego-dreams come a-tumbling, and then to apportion his baggage properly --- to stop pretending that his middleclass adventures are somehow manly, and to simply accept them as trivial games which, viewed honestly and acknowledged with modesty, might be all right.
However, if he were going to make such a positive change, he would probably have done so already. And, not having done so, it is likely that he will fail again, and will instead cover up his error with a self-righteous self-covering.
Then, it is possible that he will develop anger and zeal at imagined enemies, in order to distract attention away from the truth of his own absurdity. Once this begins, it will be very difficult to get him to be reasonable, for his all-important false self-image depends upon the lie.
To avoid this unfortunate possibility, it would be wise for everyone to practice an unusual degree of gentleness and modesty during the entire winter season, to always see the humor in all ego-games, and to strictly avoid all temptations to anger, excessive zeal, and self-righteousness. This might even include the avoidance of the seemingly-harmless experiences of public self-congratulation as are found in sports events, large parties, and other collective engines that live by increasing the mass mind while necessarily reducing individuality.
Only when this lower misuse of the positive energy is avoided can the man express positively, remembering to be boyish and innocent in the pursuit of wider horizons, and also remembering somewhat of the universe all around him. Then, he can finish the winter quarter happily, having been sorely tempted to be angry, self-righteous, fatuous, and pompous --- yet having resisted all these, instead behaving in a more manly manner --- being thoughtful and gentle, leaving the world alone, and having the courage to be nice.

Conclusion
|
| |
|
There is really only one thing to do in this quarter, and that is to be gentle and kind. All warlike tendencies will lead to harm, but a simple, girlish charm will work miracles. Since 2006 promises to be a much better year than 2005, it behooves us to end 2005 with a gradual improvement in our own expressed characters, thus helping the new year along by becoming better ourselves.
